Land corruption threatens ecosystems, fuels deforestation, and displaces communities, making it a critical challenge for environmental integrity. This session invites participants to reconsider what regulatory data about land and the environment can do: not just flag where risks exist, but help explain why they exist, and point toward where action can have the most impact.
We will hear from two organizations working on complementary pieces of this puzzle. Liam Bailey from WWF will share insights from the Risk Filter Suite v3.0, which helps companies, financial institutions, and civil society identify where weak regulation compounds environmental risk. Charl-Thom Bayer from Land Portal will take us through why land governance data matters not only to avoid risks, but also to promote justice and equity. He will draw on insights from the State of Land Information Index (SOLIndex).
The session will focus on how these forms of intelligence translate into decisions, helping participants leave with a sharper sense of how combining regulatory data and considerations about risk can strengthen both diagnosis and response to land and environmental challenges.
