Navigating integrity in carbon markets: standards, scrutiny, and national implementation

Join us for an engaging webinar exploring how carbon markets can deliver real climate impact while maintaining integrity. The session will focus on the safeguards, oversight, and governance mechanisms needed to strengthen carbon market integrity.

As global carbon markets continue shifting toward higher integrity and verified impact, identifying and addressing corruption risks is increasingly critical. This discussion brings together key voices from across the carbon ecosystem to examine current safeguards and remaining vulnerabilities.

Featuring perspectives from a leading market watchdog, Carbon Market Watch, a major standards body, Verra, and a pioneering host country institution, the Ghana Environmental Protection Agency, the panel will explore project quality loopholes, recent updates to voluntary carbon standards (VCS v5), and the practical realities of national carbon market governance.

The speakers from the panel are:

  • Benja Faecks, Expert on Global Carbon Markets, Carbon Market Watch (CMW)
  • Thuy Tran, Senior Compliance Counsel at Verra
  • Dr. Daniel Tutu Benefoh, Acting Director, Climate Change Unit of Ghana’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

The meeting will be held on Zoom. It is open to current members of the Countering Environmental Corruption Practitioners Forum and its Climate Finance Working Group, as well as those potentially interested in joining.
