As artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes how we work, its application in law enforcement investigations and its evidential reliability in court are becoming increasingly relevant. AI-driven tools are employed to analyse large datasets, identify patterns and facilitate decision-making processes. Our invited speaker, Professor Tim Grant, Professor of Forensic Linguistics at Aston University, will share insights from his extensive research at the intersection of forensic linguistics, technology-assisted investigation, and digital evidence. Drawing on practical examples, he will examine the opportunities, risks and challenges AI presents for investigators within legal proceedings.
The advancement of AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) presents opportunities for law enforcement and investigators to leverage emerging technologies in their pursuit of criminals. In the context of open data and digital evidence, AI can change how investigators analyse publicly available information. However, these opportunities also come with significant risks and challenges.
The meeting will be held in English on Zoom. It is open to current members of the Countering Environmental Corruption Practitioners Forum and its Open Data Working Group, as well as those potentially interested in joining. If you're working on or interested in this topic, join the discussion!
